Good Morning Band Parents!
What a successful show! I am extremely proud of the band on their performance last Friday! I hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did.
We have a few pep bands coming up. These were not in the schedule of events given to you at the beginning of the year. They are the games Cuba City is expected to play during the state tournament. The first game is the only guarantee; depending on how well each team does, more games will be coming as they progress in the tournament. Here are the games for next week.
Volleyball:
Tuesday, October 17th
Thursday, October 19th
Saturday, October 21st
Football:
Friday, October 20th
Please note that all football games are required events. Students will be given a grade based on their attendance. Volleyball games are completely optional; however, if your child would like to attend the State Tournament, if the volleyball team is successful, he or she must attend at least TWO regional games.
Students will need to sign up for the volleyball games in order to get into the event without a ticket.
Please note that the band does not travel for tournament games for volleyball or football games. We strictly stay at home.
Thank you for your continued support of the music department!

Good morning!
The start of school is extremely busy for parents, teachers, and students. A lot of information is flying at you, and it can be very easy to feel overwhelmed. Hopefully, the year is starting to calm down, but there are so many great opportunities ahead for the music department!
We have a wonderful group of leaders within the CCPMC who work to help make the music department run smoothly and successfully every year. It is their job to organize fundraisers and special events throughout the year. Every parent of a music student is an official member of CCPMC, and CCPMC cannot be a successful organization without total parent involvement. These events are extremely important to CCPMC, the music department, and the music students.
Each family needs to sign up for AT LEAST two events for the school year. Here are some that need your help!
Football Concessions
Every year, the Cuba City Boosters ask CCPMC to provide half of the volunteers for Football concessions. In turn, the Boosters give a portion of their earnings to CCPMC. This is an easy way to earn money for our programs. Funds go towards scholarships for summer camps or music trips, large purchases not covered in the music department, such as our sound shells we use for concerts. We just need one more parent for this year!
Pasty Days
This has been an extremely successful fundraiser for the past few years. This is also a way for students to volunteer, as many sign up to help make pasty all day long. However, there is still a need for adults during the day. The time given is fairly short, and the jobs are very easy to carry out. Students can earn money toward their music trips with each pasty they sell.
Solo/Ensemble
The SWAL conference rotates the responsibilities of each school to host a music event every year. Last year, Cuba City hosted High School Solo/Ensemble. This year, it is our job to host Middle School Solo/Ensemble. We had a lot of great parents who gave up a half of a Saturday in order for the students to have successful performances throughout the day. Some even gave the whole day. We were still short on parent volunteers last year, so many had to fill in after their hours were up!
Remember, all of these events directly benefit our music students, but without your help, none of these events will be successful!
Thank you!

I hope this email finds you well. Cody and I are very excited for the start of summer! We are off tomorrow for a short vacation, and we will be ready for MS and HS band lessons on June 12th. This can only be accomplished by hard work and dedication at home.
If you see any scheduling issues and need to change, please let me know. If your child did not sign up, and you would like them to receive lessons, please contact me as soon as possible.

Upcoming Jazz Rehearsals
Good morning, Jazz parents!
Our spring rehearsals are underway! We've got some great music that we're preparing and I think the students are really excited about the pieces picked out. The Mondayevening rehearsals are working out really well, and I would like to thank you for allowing them to come on a weekly basis for these rehearsals.
Please take note about a few upcoming rehearsals in January:
Monday, January 23rd Though there is no school this day, we will still be holding jazz rehearsals at the regular time that evening: Vocal Jazz at 6:30 and Jazz Ensemble at 7:45.
Tuesday, January 31st. Due to Freshmen orientation, both jazz rehearsals will be moved to Tuesday evening of that week with the same times as usual.
I'm hoping that you are able to accommodate that schedule change. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Band Summer Items
Good morning Band Parents! A few things before we pack up for summer...
Thank you for such a successful year! There has been so much growth and progress throughout the year, and there have been so many successes! It's always sad to end a school year, but I'm glad for the recharge of the summer so I can look forward to next year's program!
One thing that students may tend to forget is that they should take their instruments and method books home. Many poor instruments get left unattended in the music room, and that's no way to spend the summer!
Summer Band lessons run June 20th to June 30th. The schedule is still being finalized while I work with our incoming freshmen, so please check your email within the next week for updates!
CC@CC is July 26th! The past few years of Colt Cadets at Cuba City have been very successful! We are excited to keep seeing it grow every year. Mark your calendars for July 26th for their performance in the evening. There will also be an instrument clinic for all interested students and live music by the Ken Killian Swingtet before the Cadets take the field!
Marching Band Camp is August 8th-August 11th. A schedule will roll out by the end of June for those times. We will have morning sectionals most days with everyone coming together on the last day of rehearsal. It's a great way to get ready for the upcoming marching season and prepare for our Homecoming show.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and please have a fun and safe summer!

This Week in CCHS Music
Hello Music Parents!
See some important information below!
1. Pep band is gearing up for the Girls' Basketball tournament! The kids are very excited, and we've had great community support this year. The students have been given a tentative schedule for both regional and sectional games. We will know the schedule for Boys on Monday.
2. Final payment for the music trip is March 11th! If you are able, please pay sooner rather than later! Please note one important change to total amounts:
a. An additional $12 was added to the final total of the trip for each passenger. We've tacked on another lunch that will not be paid out of pocket now. This was approved by the CCPMC on Wednesday this week.
3. The Music Department apparel sale is on! There was a slight typo in our order form, so ask any questions you may have. Please know that this is not a fundraiser, but a way to promote our program and demonstrate our pride!
4. Congratulations to our four young musicians who participated in Tri-State Honor Band last week at UWP! They made some amazing music with composer, David Gillingham.
5. Also a great big congratulations to the five students who auditioned for the Wisconsin State Music Honors Project! I'm sure it was a nerve-wracking day for all of them, and they should be proud of themselves for working hard and trying their best for the auditions!
6. The Pasty Day was a huge success! Thank you to all the parent and student volunteers who helped on that day! The totals are not completely in, but we made over $5000!!!! We still have some for sale, so please let me know if you'd like some more.
7. Please make sure to check out the website! Much information is provided in these emails, but in case you lose them, everything can be found on the website. Just click the link below!

Hello Music Parents!
Half of the quarter is finished! It felt as though September flew by! We have already had so many accomplishments in the music department this year already!
Hello Music Parents!
Half of the quarter is finished! It felt as though September flew by! We have already had so many accomplishments in the music department this year already!
- Our first musical in several years was a tremendous success! Many band and choir students were involved, and they represented the drama and music departments well. Thank you to all parents who helped!
- Congratulations to the Marching Band on a very successful season! All of our events were packed into one weekend, and the students really played and looked professional! An upload of the show will soon be available on this site and our Facebook page.
- Choral Fest at UW-Platteville took place October 6th this week. Four freshmen and one sophomore represented CCHS as honors musicians wonderfully. Their concert with more than 200 students from area schools was a success! Thank you to those students who prepared music and made the Cuba City Music Department Proud!
- Jazz Groups start on October 12th! I am so excited to see so many students involved! This year, we will have a full jazz ensemble of sixteen students. We will also have a larger group in vocal jazz with ten ladies! There is extra excitement, as we will be participating in WSMA's Jazz Festival in March at Fennimore this year. Please remind your children that rehearsals will start promptly at 7 am on Mondays and Tuesdays. We can only be successful with students who arrive consistently on time every week.
- The New York Trip is getting closer. Please remember to fill out your child's letter of intent, which you can view and print here.
- Please take some time and visit the new Cuba City High Music page. All important information is posted weekly for upcoming news and events!
Due Dates
9/15/15
The first few weeks of school can be exciting time for both parents and students. It can be a hectic time as well. So many syllabi, forms, and fees that need to be turned in ASAP! It's hard to keep track! Thanks to all who have submitted their forms and fees in a timely manner. We've had yet to hear from a few.
1. Handbook Agreement Forms The handbooks were read through the first week of class during rehearsals. Each student received a hard copy along with an agreement form that was due on September 4th. We're still waiting for a few students to hand these in. This form is very important. It lets me know that parents have received all the important information regarding all of the music program's policies, and it acts as a permission slip for various field trips we take throughout the year. This important form is graded and students who have not turned in their form currently have a zero in the gradebook. But don't worry! Students can turn in the signed form this week for full credit!
2. Volunteer Forms A few weeks ago, I sent out an initial email regarding volunteer opportunities for all music parents. We're still waiting on about half of the parents to respond. Please realize that a successful music program is heavily reliant on parent volunteers. You can fill out and submit the form here. Students will also be given a paper form in case you'd prefer that means. If we don't hear from you by the end of the week, a CCPMC member will be contacting you via phone to ask for your help!
3. Student Fees (Band only) As a district policy, band students who are enrolled for the first semester must pay a $10 uniform fee to the office as soon as possible. This aids the school in cleaning the uniforms every year. I'm sure we can agree that we want fresh uniforms to wear every marching season, and the students only pay a portion of this cleaning fee. Please turn in your fees to Pam or Julie in the high school office!
4. Rental forms and fees (Band only) Students using school instruments should have received an instrument rental form. That form is due back to me signed as soon as possible. The $50 rental fee is due to the office. If a child is on the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, that fee is waived; however, you must make sure the proper paperwork has been turned into Pam or Julie.
5. Umbrellas/Towels We have many Cuban umbrellas and towels currently in storage at the high school. CCPMC has been generous enough to donate one EACH to every high school student in the music program at no cost to you. If you feel inclined to donate any money for these items, they are happy to have it, but it is not necessary. Those will be given to the students by the end of this week!
6. Innisbrook Fundraiser One of two of our largest fundraisers has begun! We are raising funds for the trip and for acoustical shells for our performances! 20% will go directly to the students' accounts, so it's important that they sell! Everything, including full payment, is due on Monday, September 28th.

Welcome back to all the CCHS musicians! I hope I find everyone well rested and excited to start the new school year! I'm proud to say that in the past four years I have been a part of Cuba City School District, I have the highest number of participants than ever before! With the brand new year, comes this brand new website to support the Cuba City High School Music Program! I hope your are able to access information quickly as you peruse this site. I will be updating this site weekly as we move through the school year, so it may be a good idea to bookmark this site to your computer's browser. A few things you will need to know when the school year begins:
- Students will be going through their respective class handbooks, one for band and one for choir. Each handbook goes through expectations, policies, and a schedule that everyone needs to be aware of. The students will receive a copy of the handbook in class, but you are also able to access the handbook on the Communication tab on the Cuba City High Music site. You also can "sign" an agreement form online. Just go to either the Band or Choir tab, fill in the spaces provided, and click Agree!
- I mentioned schedule. As a musical performing group, we have a load of events throughout the year that both parents and students need to know. Please make sure that this schedule is posted in a place where you can access on a regular basis. Some of those dates may creep up on you quickly! Remember, that both band and choir are co-curricular activities, and some required events take place outside of the school day.
- I'm sure most of you know that this is the year of our Music Trip. I'm excited to say that we are traveling to New York City! Broadway! Statue of Liberty! Times Square! This will be our last bi-annual trip. From now on, we will be traveling only once every four years; however, every year, the seniors of the music program will be taking a short trip in May every year. Last year, the seniors went to Chicago. This year, due to the expense of the New York trip, the seniors will be traveling to Madison for shopping, dinner, and going to The Lion King at the Overture Center. More information regarding both the New York and Senior trips will be available in the first few weeks of September.
- We have the wonderful opportunity every year for musicians to participate in a number of Honors Ensembles. Choir members can join Choral Festival in October, and band members can join the Tri-State Band Festival, both held at UW-Platteville. We also participate in the SWAL conference honors band and choir in January. This year, Cuba City High School will we hosting the SWAL honors choir. We still need parent volunteers to help make this event run smoothly. If your child is interested in being considered for an honors ensemble, he or she will need to fill out an application in the honors section of his or her group. This form is due by September 30th.
- While we are currently in marching band and musical season, jazz season will be here before your know it! Sign ups for both jazz ensemble and vocal jazz are on the website (remember, we're streamlining) and rehearsals will start the week of October 12th!
- To keep everyone on track for this school year, both ensembles will be a part of a Remind group. Both students and parents can sign up for Remind alerts. And there's an app for that! More information to come!
